Welcome To My Twitter!

What Is Twitter?
''Twitter is for staying in touch and keeping up with friends no matter where you are or what you're doing. For some friends you might want instant mobile updates for others, you can just check the web. Invite your friends to Twitter and decide how connected you want you to be.'' Twitter FAQ
As the Twitter team make clear in their description, Twitter is basically a way of sending out messages to groups of friends, or even to the general public, from a website, mobile phone or Instant Messaging client.

Every time you post a new message, which must be less than 140 characters long, that message is relayed to all of the people in your friends list, published to your personal Twitter home page, and added to the public home page unless you tell it otherwise.

Friends with Twitter activated on their mobile phones will receive your message, and can reply to it, via SMS. Those who have activated their Instant Messaging account will receive the message through their IM client. Everyone else can follow your updates from your personal Twitter page, which also features its own RSS feed.

Twitter Applications
One of the things that really makes Twitter fun is that it comes with lots of optional add-ons. Twitter allows programmers to write applications that anyone can use and which extend the power of Twitter.

Twitter Feed - http://twitterfeed.com/

This is much easier. Twitter Feed sends your blog updates to Twitter automatically. Just enter the URL of your blog's RSS feed, tell it how often you tweet, and your followers will always see your post announcements.

TwitThis - http://twitthis.com/

You've probably seen all the buttons at the bottom of blog posts urging people to Digg the article or send it to StumbleUpon. With TwitThis, you can also ask them send an URL of the page together with a brief description to their Twitter followers.

TweetScan - http://www.tweetscan.com/

Searching on Twitter isn't particularly efficient... unless you're using Tweetscan. It's just a great Twitter-specific search engine that's very useful when you're looking for people to follow or ask advice from.

Snitter - http://getsnitter.com/

Twitter might be based on a website but you don't actually need to open your browser to use it. Snitter is a desktop application that works like an IM messenger. You can watch the tweets come and go while you continue working.

GroupTweet - http://www.grouptweet.com/

GroupTweet is constantly listening for direct texts sent to your group's Twitter account. When a direct text is received, GroupTweet instantly publishes it as a tweet from the group account. Since all of your group members are following the group's Twitter account, they will each receive the message. Easy-peasy!
